The community you’ll be caring for: 401 S DIXIE HWY, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168
The role you’ll contribute: Performs Surgical Services clerical functions, which may include scheduling, order entry, filing, report printing, sorting and distribution. Greets patients at the surgical reception desk, notifies registration and Pre-op staff of patient’s arrival. Explains surgical patient flow to family members and answers question pertaining to the status of the surgical patient. Coordinates with staff as needed regarding patient status and delays. Answers telephones, transfers calls and relays messages as needed.
Responsibility to adhere to the Florida Hospital Corporate compliance plan, to the rules and regulations of all local, state, and Federal agencies, and to the standards of all accrediting bodies.

Performs surgical clerical functions, including scheduling, order entry, filing, report printing, sorting and distribution.
Greets patients at the surgical reception desk, explaining surgical preparation procedures in ASU, Holding, Surgery and Recovery (PACU).
Coordinates with staff as needed regarding patient status, delays and any scheduling or throughput issues.
Answers telephones, transfers calls and relays messages as needed.
Relays messages or information as needed.
Prints, sorts, files, faxes and distributes to appropriate departments.
Verifies patient’s appointment and surgery time in computer.
Explains tracking board to patients and families as needed. Assists in relaying patient location information
Maintains beverage area in a neat and orderly fashion
Assists physicians, visitors and employees with location of patient’s families
Monitors patient waiting area, checking on patients waiting or visitors needing attention.
May be required to alternate shifts to accommodate the needs of the dept.
Performs basic equipment maintenance such as printer toner or ribbon changes, fax cartridge changing, etc.
May be asked to assist in training new Volunteer staff in the performance of desk duties.
May be assigned regular or periodic duties by supervisor including the maintenance of logs and organizing next day’s surgical schedule.
Performs other general clerical duties as assigned.
Occasionally may assist in helping other areas within Perioperative Services.

Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge of Medical Terminology is required
Must be able to type and perform order entry on the hospital computer system
Must possess general clerical skills
Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
CPR Required
Able to type and perform general computer tasks.
Possess general clerical skills, as well as good communication and organizational skills.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Possess communication skills necessary for contact with patients and family members of infants through geriatric population.
Ability to work with other employees and volunteers.
