The role you’ll contribute:
The Financial Reporting Director is responsible for all aspects of external financial reporting prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles as serves as a key subject matter expert on technical accounting analysis. The position will complete technical accounting research related to business transactions (e.g., acquisitions, joint ventures, real estate transactions, etc.) and new and proposed accounting standards. This includes analyzing the accounting guidance, clearly and concisely writing position papers, and presenting the analysis and conclusions to leadership and external auditors. The Financial Reporting Director serves as a key resource to finance and accounting leaders throughout the organization and within joint ventures and a successful candidate will be able to effectively communicate with controllers, CFOs and other corporate leaders. The Director of Financial Reporting also supports and assists with the implementation, maintenance and review of internal controls and corporate accounting policies and procedures. A successful candidate will be a hands-on professional with a strong understanding of the application of generally accepted accounting principles in the United States (GAAP) and financial reporting. An internal control and process-oriented mindset, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and desire and ability to identify, recommend and lead improvements is also important. As needed, the position will provide presentations and reports to the AdventHealth audit committee.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Oversee the preparation, accurate reporting and filing of annual and quarterly external financial statements, for multiple reporting entities, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in the United States (GAAP). Assist in the preparation of other external documents that include financial information such as bond offering documents.
Monitor and ensure timely identification and compliance with evolving accounting guidance. Lead or oversee all research efforts. Interpret and apply GAAP and prepare technical memorandums that document issues and transactions in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner.
Effectively present and communicate accounting guidance to peers, senior management, internal and external auditors.
Independent thinking, comfortable enough to challenge the assumptions of more senior leaders if those leaders need to consider other alternatives.
Facilitate quarterly Disclosure Committee meetings with key members of management.
Coordinate, direct, plan and execute the financial reporting component of the external audit and bond offering reviews. Ensure auditor agreement with company decisions on accounting issues and disclosures.
Prepare or review internal accounting policies to ensure effective and practical implementation.
Work closely with other corporate departments and the marketplace to ensure accurate accounting, consolidation and reporting. Work with other internal departments to perform research and communicate accounting and reporting implications of contemplated transactions.
Recruit, train and evaluate team. Assist in developing and implementing continued training for staff.
Interacts with facility personnel, joint venture partners, executive teams, department directors/managers as well as establishing relationships with business partners, suppliers, and internal stakeholders ensuring that business needs are met, related issues are resolved, and any financial considerations are addressed.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting
Seven to ten years of experience in top-tier public accounting firm and/or in financial reporting role within a large organization
Excellent knowledge of GAAP combined with the ability to research and propose company positions on complex accounting issues
Knowledge of strong accounting processes with appropriate internal control design
Certified Public Accountant required
