In compliance with applicable New York and New Jersey State regulatory authorities, COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine) is mandatory for all MSK employees, contingent workers, and volunteers. Exceptions are permitted for those employees who request and receive an approved medical or fully remote exemption.
*Staff working at a MSK New Jersey location must be up to date with COVID-19 vaccination, which includes having completed the primary COVID-19 vaccination series and booster once eligible as mandated by New Jersey State. All New Jersey staff not yet eligible for a booster must receive a booster within 3 weeks of becoming eligible as a condition of continued employment at MSK.
Note: Individuals are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster five months after receiving the second dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or two months after the J&J vaccine.
Job Description
The Immigrant Health and Cancer Disparities (IHCD) Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering is working to address disparities in access to cancer treatment and other healthcare services at the local, national, and global levels. Using a cross-disciplinary, community-engaged approach, we identify key areas of need. We provide health education and other services to immigrants and medically underserved communities.
We are looking for a Community Outreach Associate (COA). The COA is an integral member of the IHCD service within the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences. The COA will work directly with the Arab Health Initiative. We work to provide patient education in Arabic, helping patients access healthcare services and conducting research to improve health outcomes among Arab Americans. You Will:
- Lead all aspects of the Arab Health Initiative, coordinating activities, research initiatives and services provided at different locations visited, participating in community events where services are provided
- Assist as community outreach program liaison to coordinate health partner's participation to expand services and outreach. Assisting with program development to improve services including proposal and protocol development
- Be responsible for data collection and reporting, working with the supervisor in all reporting efforts, and disseminating project results
- Prepares outreach, service, research, and educational activity reports on a monthly basis for the program manager
- Coordinates community-based research initiatives including recruitment, data collection, reporting and regulatory work
- Establishes relationships with counterparts within the community and religious organizations and at healthcare organizations to help to expand outreach efforts
- Attends training programs, modules, workshops, seminars, disease-specific meetings, and meetings to keep up to date on project objectives and new policies/procedures for conducting Community Outreach / human subjects' research, when directed by supervisor
- Coordinate all workshops, screenings, and other events specifically for the project
- Supervise a Community Outreach Coordinator
- Build a network of potential local community groups and local businesses to assist with events and help sponsor community programs
You Are:
- Genuinely interested in working in health disparities through service, outreach, education, and research
- Exceptionally organized and an effective communicator, capable of determining how best to reach different audiences and executing communications based on that understanding
- Adept at creating partnerships and working collaboratively to meet shared objectives and goals
- A good decision-maker, with shown success at making timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward
You Have:
- Arabic fluency required (written and spoken)
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience
- Excellent administrative skills and digital literacy including familiarity with Microsoft Office and/or REDCap
